The Basaveshwara Veerashaiva Vidya Vardhaka Sangha (B.V.V Sangha), established on October 18, 1906, was founded by Shri Gurubasava Mahaswamiji of Bilur with a vision to provide value-based education. Initially set up as a Sanskrit Pathashala (traditional school), the Sangha focused on imparting moral and ethical education to young generations through the study of Sanskrit and cultural values. Over time, it expanded significantly and now operates over 120 educational institutions spread across regions like Bagalkot and Belgaum in Karnataka, as well as Bilur in Maharashtra.

The institutions under the B.V.V Sangha encompass a wide range of disciplines, including engineering, medical sciences, arts, commerce, law, and more. The growth of the Sangha reflects the foresight and dedication of its founder and subsequent leaders who have shaped its contributions to education and societal development, making it one of the premier educational organizations in Karnataka (S.Nijalingappa Medical College)(BVVS College).

Today, the Sangha plays a vital role in nurturing talent through its diverse institutions, helping countless students pursue higher education and professional careers in a variety of fields.

The Indian Pharmacological Society (IPS) was founded in 1966 to promote the growth of pharmacology as a scientific discipline and to address the growing need for research and development in the field of pharmacology in India. The birth of the society can be traced back to the collaborative efforts of Indian pharmacologists, physicians, and researchers who sought to establish a formal body that could unify professionals working in the field and encourage advancements in both basic and clinical pharmacology.

    Early Influences and Key Figures

The society emerged during a period when the field of pharmacology was gaining importance in India, driven by the increasing need for better therapeutic drugs and a deeper understanding of drug mechanisms. The formation of IPS was influenced by visionary leaders such as Dr. U. C. Dutt, Dr. G. P. Talwar, and others who had extensive experience in pharmacological research and wanted to promote indigenous drug discovery and therapeutic solutions.

    The Initial Goal of IPS

The primary goal of IPS was to foster a network of pharmacologists, toxicologists, and researchers across India. The society sought to provide a platform for sharing knowledge, conducting collaborative research, and organizing events such as seminars, conferences, and workshops, thereby contributing to the growth of pharmacology and therapeutics in India.

    Major Milestones

Since its inception, IPS has grown in both size and influence. Some significant milestones in its history include:

    • Annual Conferences: The society has organized annual conferences that serve as important gatherings for professionals in the field to present their research findings, discuss innovations, and address challenges.
    • Publications: IPS has also played a key role in the publication of The Indian Journal of Pharmacology, which has become one of the leading journals in the field, covering original research articles, reviews, and case studies related to pharmacology.

    Contribution to National Health

The IPS has contributed to various national health programs and research initiatives. By collaborating with government bodies, pharmaceutical industries, and academic institutions, the society has helped shape policies related to drug safety, regulatory frameworks, and the ethical conduct of pharmacological research in India.

The society continues to grow and adapt to the evolving landscape of pharmacology, remaining dedicated to promoting research, education, and clinical excellence in the field.

The International Pharmacology Conference in 2023, specifically the 19th World Congress of Basic & Clinical Pharmacology (WCP2023), took place from July 2 to July 7, 2023, in Glasgow, Scotland. hskipcon2023.com This event brought together leading researchers, students, and professionals from across the global pharmacology community. The congress focused on promoting collaboration, innovation, and discovery in drug development, pharmacological research, and therapeutic interventions.

WCP2023 featured an impressive lineup of 484 speakers and chairs from 78 countries, covering a wide range of topics. The program included 63 symposia, 23 keynote lectures, 18 workshops, and 3 debates, ensuring a comprehensive exploration of the latest advancements in pharmacology. The event also emphasized networking, with numerous opportunities for attendees to connect through social events and interactive sessions

Key themes of the conference included innovations in cardiovascular pharmacology, new drug development techniques, and global perspectives on pharmacological education. Additionally, various satellite meetings were held before and after the main event, providing a platform for specialized discussions on topics like GPCR signaling and pharmacology education.

Overall, WCP2023 offered participants the chance to share cutting-edge research, collaborate with peers, and explore the future of pharmacology on a global scale(International Science Council)(WCP2023 Pharmacology).
